Cozy brick bungalows and cottages on small, well-tended yards give the Bluefields neighborhood a welcoming feel. Sidewalks are provided in many parts of the neighborhood, making a quick walk to local conveniences quite pleasant. Along the boundary roads of Lebanon Pike and Donelson Pike are retail and service establishments and a neighborhood treasure – the Larry Keaton Theatre.

The Larry Keaton Theatre is a non-profit organization, devoted to developing talent and providing quality family entertainment at reasonable prices. The Theater sponsors summer camps and classes in theater, dance, and visual arts. Also within walking distance are a Yoga center and two bowling centers.

Recreational sites are all around the neighborhood. Peeler Park is a regional favorite, especially for canoeists. Paddling events on the Cumberland River begin at Peeler. The 269 acre park also has horse paths and great trails for dog walking or bike riding. Wave Country, at Two Rivers Park, is about three miles west. With very affordable season passes, it could easily be a summertime favorite. It features a wave action pool, flumes, slides and speed slides. Water features and sprays add to the fun.

Of course, Nashville has many notable historic sites as well. Quite a few of these are close by, including The Hermitage, Andrew Jackson’s Home. Others include Buchanan Log House and Spring Haven Mansion.

A few miles east, near Percy Priest Reservoir, are a large grocery store and several fast-food and casual dining restaurants. Kohl’s, Target, and several other value stores are a short drive north, as is Wal-Mart. Opry Mills is a large outlet mall not far away.

Two Metro Parks golf courses are nearby, Two Rivers and Shelby. Ted Rhodes is an especially fine course, though a bit farther away. The nearest private course is at Ravenwood Country Club.
