Wales Garden is an older residential neighborhood featuring a mixture of single-story brick homes and two-story frame houses situated on large lots along a quiet oak-lined street. The neighborhood is bordered by the main thoroughfares of South Harden Street to the east, Rosewood Drive to the south, Assembly Street to the west and Gervais Street to the north. Each road provides quick and easy access to area attractions.

Gregg Park, Emily Douglas Park, and Martin Luther King Jr. Park are all just a short drive from the Wales Garden neighborhood, providing plenty of recreation and play space for local families.

Further west, the Columbia Canal area also boasts multiple parks, many of them along the water, including the Bicentennial Park, Riverwalk Park and Granby Park. Additional shopping venues in the river area are Parkland Shopping Center and Capitol Shopping Center.

To learn more about Columbia and its past, the Historical Columbia Foundation provides an up-close look at seven historical districts including homes and gardens reflecting the history of the south. The Randolph Cemetery is one such historic site just north of the Columbia Canal. Established in 1871 in honor of Benjamin Franklin Randolph, a senator during the Reconstruction period, it is one of the first black cemeteries established in Columbia.

The campus of the University of South Carolina and Stone Stadium sit directly west of Wales Garden. Palmer College is conveniently located to the north. Families have access to several area elementary and secondary schools including Hand Middle School, A. C. Moore School, Rosewood Elementary School, Hollywood Elementary and Richland One Charter Middle County.
