Outer East Central, a large neighborhood in Columbia, South Carolina, is located on the east side of the University of South Carolina. The neighborhood of Shandon is a historic part of a city that treasures its history. The Confederate Relic Room and Museum has been operating since 1895, showcasing confederate history. The Fort Jackson Museum showcases more than 200 years of history at Fort Jackson, the largest training center for the US army, with more than 50 percent of all soldiers passing through the gates.
Columbia is home to the Gamecocks of the University of South Carolina, where they play football in the SEC. Williams-Bryce Stadium can be quite a loud place on game day Saturday. Tickets are hard to come by, but the viewing parties are everywhere as the whole town gets behind the team.
Owens Field Skate Park is a skateboarding facility and disc golf park. Sarge Frye Field is a part of historical University of South Carolina. Other area parks include Bates, Hollywood, Ben Arnold, and Oakhurst. Walkers, pet owners, and residents enjoy family activities, picnics, and sports games in these city recreational facilities.
The historic Columbia House Museum, the State House, and the Governor’s Mansion are all a short drive into the surrounding region. The Elmwood Park Historic District, the Congaree River, and several parks help make Outer East Central a terrific place to live. The River Walk has natural trails, greenways, small businesses, and the picturesque outdoors.
