The largest state university, The University of South Carolina, is located at 1500 Pendleton Street and has a campus with more than 30,000 students and a medical college, all located in Columbia.

The Gamecocks of the University of South Carolina play their home games in Williams-Brice Stadium. The fans show up in garnet and black to support the USC home team, and when they play, the whole town stops to watch.
