The North Columbia region of Richland County includes the 29203 and 29223 zip codes and currently comprises thirty residential neighborhoods. East of the North Columbia region, the Sesquicentennial State Park is open to the public for camping, boating, fishing and picnicking. The Fort Jackson complex further east trains a huge majority of US troops and features museum on the military history of the area.

Residents of North Columbia have access to Columbia Owens Downtown Airport and the Columbia Metropolitan Airport, both located south of the region. Visitors arriving at either of the airports have several quality accommodations in the North Columbia region to choose from including budget inns and motels, chain hotel brands and independent bed and breakfasts.

The west border of North Columbia has access to the 2177-acre Harbison State Forest with miles of trails for hiking, biking, jogging, walking, and a landing for canoes and kayaks to access the river. Harbison State Forest is only nine miles from downtown Columbia.

Further west, outdoorsy Columbians enjoy the Dreher Island State Recreation Area and adjacent Lake Murray. The park and lake together comprise approximately 50,000 acres. The lake serves as both a source of power for the hydroelectric plant and a recreational area where boating and fishing are popular activities.

Within the North Columbia region, residents have an abundance of restaurants, coffee shops, bars, nightclubs and shopping venues for entertainment.

The neighborhoods in the North Columbia region are easily accessible using Interstate 20, Veterans Memorial Freeway and the major roadways of Wilson Boulevard, Fairfield Road and Monticello Road.
