The neighborhood of Heathwood West is near West Columbia and is located just to the east of downtown Columbia. In fact, it is considered to be a downtown neighborhood. Heathwood has a variety of different home styles. Some are small- to medium-sized, one- and two-story structures, while others are much larger.

The area is known for its large Southern-style homes. The lots are generous and tree-filled for the most part. Some condos are also in the area. The neighborhood is convenient to Interstate 77 and to the downtown shopping district.

Columbia Owens Downtown Airport is located just to the south of this area. The major school near Heathwood is the Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, which is a college-prep facility. Columbia is also the home of the University of South Carolina.

Restaurants convenient to the Healthwood West neighborhood include the Carolina Wings and Rib House, China Chef, Delucca’s, Gators, and Mangia Mangia. There are some very highly regarded hotels nearby. Among them are Hilton Columbia Center, Clarion Hotel Downtown, and the Hampton Inn Columbia Hotel Downtown Historic District.

Columbia has several historic sites. Some are Civil War-related, such as the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Museum. Two other interesting attractions are Woodrow Wilson’s boyhood home and EdVenture. Families will enjoy the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden.

For Heathwood West residents who love the ballet and classical music, the Columbia City Ballet and the Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra make their homes downtown.
