Hampton Leas Apartments for Rent
The Hampton Leas neighborhood in Columbia is bordered by Hampton Ridge, Hampton Trace, and Hampton Harbors. This South Carolina neighborhood is close to the Hammond School and William Jennings Bryan Dorn Veterans Medical Center. It is also close to Woodland Park, a family favorite among recreational areas.
Hammond School was founded in 1965 and opened in 1966. The school was originally named James H. Hammond Academy and served students from grades 1 through 12. Although the school still serves those grades, the name was changed to Hammond School in 1980. The 20 acres of land for the school was donated by Lucy Hampton Bostick, who served as the librarian of the Columbia Public Library from 1928-1934 and of the Richland County Public Library from 1934 to 1968.
The William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center is a 216-bed facility created to assist veterans with all types of medical, surgical, and psychiatric issues. In 2009 alone, the facility cared for more than 65,000 patients through a combination of inpatient and outpatient services. It also has a patient education center for veterans and their families to address various concerns and offers mental health services and nutrition and weight-control classes.
Woodland Park, which opens daily at 6 a.m., offers a number of facilities for families. Among them are a baseball diamond, tennis courts, and a variety of equipment that allows children to exercise through climbing. The park also has a community center that is open afternoons and evenings. Hampton Leas residents can use its computers with Internet access, as well as the gymnasium. The community center is open to the public seven days a week.
