The residential neighborhood of East Lake is in the 29209 zip code of Columbia, South Carolina. Located east of Interstate 77 and Atlas Road, East Lake is about 15 minutes from Midtown-Downtown. Landscaped and neatly maintained lots line the neighborhood’s winding streets.

The location of the East Lake neighborhood allows residents easy access to city parks, shopping, schools, and the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center. This hospital provides care and services to the region’s veterans.

East Lake is within 10 minutes of Woodlawn Park and Hampton Park. Woodlawn Park is next to Meadowfield Elementary School and features tennis courts and a ball field. Hampton Park is a few blocks north of Woodlawn and has lit tennis courts.

About five miles from East Lake is the large Owens Field sports complex. Located off Jim Hamilton Boulevard and across from the Owens Field Airport, it has the city’s only cement skate park. While the main Richland County Public Library site is downtown, the Southeast Regional Branch is five minutes north of East Lake. In addition to its large book collection, this branch has a huge multimedia collection with media that patrons can download. The library has several book clubs plus story hours for young children.

The campus of the University of South Carolina is only 15 minutes west of East Lake. Established in 1805, the university offers more than 300 degree programs.
