Swisshelm Park Neighborhood

Allegheny County’s Swisshelm Park neighborhood spans .627 square miles in eastern Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This community is bounded by Parkview Boulevard on the west and the Monongahela River on the south. On the north, it extends just past Interstate 376 (including some of Frick Park) to the Regent Square neighborhood boundary. The railroad tracks traverse the southern portion of the neighborhood, running parallel to the river. The zip code here is 15218.

The far southern and western portions of Swisshelm Park are mostly undeveloped wooded land, but the central and eastern portions of the community are residential areas. Approximately 1,350 residents call this neighborhood “home.” The majority of the single-family homes in this affluent neighborhood are located on spacious lots with shade trees. The wooded areas secluding this community from the rest of the city give it a rather suburban feel, despite the fact that it isn’t far from the downtown area.

The bordering Frick Park is clearly a big attraction of the Swisshelm Park neighborhood, making this an ideal community for nature lovers, fitness fanatics, and families. Spanning more than 560 acres, Frick Park is the largest of the regional parks in the city. Although the park offers some traditional city park amenities like baseball fields and tennis courts, it is better known for its natural beauty, extensive wooded trails, and wildlife viewing. Interestingly, this park offers the only lawn bowling green open to the public in Pennsylvania.

Directly south of Swisshelm Park, on the other side of the river (accessible via Rankin Bridge or Homestead Grays) is the Waterfront Town Center. This large retail center offers a variety of shopping and dining options, as well as a movie theater. For more to see and do, the heart of downtown Pittsburgh is just a 13-minute drive to the west, easily accessible via nearby I-376.
