Southside Slopes Apartments for Rent

Southside Slopes (alternatively written “South Side Slopes”) is a community on the south side of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, within Allegheny County. This large neighborhood is just south of the Southside Flats neighborhood and the Monongahela River, roughly two miles from the heart of the downtown area.

The Southside Slopes neighborhood encompasses the 15203 and 15210 zip code areas and is bound by the railroad tracks on the north, Arlington Avenue on the south, Handler Street on the east, and Arlington Avenue and Amanda Street on the west. The community spans nearly one square mile and has roughly 5,040 residents.

Because the community is situated on hilly terrain, many of the homes here are situated high above the city skyline and offer some of the best views of the city. Southside Slopes is a pedestrian-friendly community, with public staircases that lead down into Southside Flats. The staircases are registered as streets, but aren’t accessible by cars and other vehicles. Each year, the neighborhood association hosts an event that involves participants walking the different staircases.

A variety of small community parks can be found within Southside Slopes, including Winter Park and Monongahela Park. South Side Park is a larger city park at the center of the neighborhood. It hosts a small wetlands area, and the entire park is home to several species of wildlife. Among the amenities offered here are hiking trails, a baseball field, and a small orchard.

Many additional attractions can be found a short distance from Southside Slopes. To the north, in Southside Flats, is the UPMC South Side Hospital. The downtown area, accessible via Liberty Bridge or the 10th Street Bridge, hosts many cultural attractions, higher education institutions, parks, and entertainment options. Heinz Stadium (home of the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers) and PNC Park (home of the MLB Pittsburgh Pirates) are also located downtown.
