South Shore Apartments for Rent

The South Shore Neighborhood is in the Allegheny County zip-code area of 15211. The city of Pittsburgh has become a pinnacle of learning and education since the downturn of the blue collar economy. The Pittsburgh Academy, founded in 1787 on the then western frontier, would evolve into the University of Pittsburgh. There is also the Carnegie-Melon University founded in 1900, and Carlow University opened in 1929.

The northern neighborhood border is the Ohio River. To the east, the Liberty Bridge is the boundary. The south border is East/West Carson Street, and the West End Bridge is the western border. This neighborhood, like many in the city, has the advantage of a lower cost of living then the national average and has been rated the “most livable” city in the United States several times over.

Rentals in the affluent South Shore Neighborhood do not last long. The apartments are perched at the top of “the hill” and surround by a sea of forest, crowned with a panoramic view of the city. The residential area, until recently, had been only private homes and estates, making apartments a much better value.

The South Shore Neighborhood has the Three Rivers Heritage Trail to the north. To the east is Station Square, the location for dining shopping as well as the docks for the Gateway Clipper Fleet, line of river cruise boats. To the south is Mount Washington, voted the most beautiful vista in America. To the west, across the West End Bridge is the new Rivers Casino.

The Port Authority offers public transportation with regularly scheduled bus routes and connections via light rail. The ‘inclines’ are vertical rails that travel up and down Mount Washington, and also are included in the transportation network.
