As one of the very first planned suburban neighborhoods in the nation, Point Breeze North has a rich history. The development began after the trolley was introduced in the 1800s, and it was named after the historic Point Breeze Hotel, which was once located near the intersection of Penn and Fifth Avenues. Despite many years of growth, this community has managed to maintain its historic feel, showcasing a variety of housing styles like 1920s villas, Victorian gingerbread homes, and Civil War row houses. Even a few of the community’s original mansions still stand, including the Westinghouse Mansion, after which the community’s park was named.
One of the most significant features of the Point Breeze North neighborhood is its close proximity to many of the city’s higher education options. Within a few miles southwest of the community are Chatham University, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University of Pittsburgh campus.
Point Breeze North is also situated just a few miles from two of the city’s largest parks – Frick Park and Schenley Park. The latter hosts the Schenley Park Golf Course, Philipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, and a Sportsplex, among other attractions and facilities.
