Homewood North is a neighborhood that is located in Pittsburgh. It is one of three sections of the Homewood Neighborhood and is located in the ZIP codes of 15221 and 15208.

The Greater Homewood area was the home of famous composer Billy Strayhorn, who was moved to Homewood by his family when he was a young boy. Andrew and Thomas Carnegie also lived in the Homewood area when they were young.

Homewood North is somewhat pedestrian-friendly. Six bus lines are within less than half a mile from Homewood North.

Westinghouse Park and Paulson Playground are located less than a mile from Homewood North. Westinghouse Park is actually located near “Solitude,” or the mansion that was lived in by George Westinghouse. Westinghouse was a competitor of Edison’s in the race to perfect the light bulb. Author John Wideman used the park in his fictional “Homewood Trilogy.”

The Carnegie Library and the Wilkinsburg Public Library are located within a half a mile of Homewood North. Bookstores include Bradley’s Books and Know Inc.

There are many private and special needs schools near Homewood North. The Student Achievement Center is a private, special needs school that focuses on grades 9 through 12. The Abarxis School is an alternative school for students in grades 7 through 12. The closest public school in the area is the Westinghouse High School.

Baketown Grocery is the main grocer in the area, with other smaller shops located within a mile and a half of Homewood North.
