Fox Chapel is a residential area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Situated in the triangle between Interstate 76 and the Allegheny River, it is just 10 miles north of the city. This Pennsylvania neighborhood is bounded on the north by Interstate 76 and to the west by Saxonburg Boulevard. The Allegheny Valley Expressway circles Fox Chapel on the east and on the south.
The community, with its tree-lined streets, is pedestrian-friendly. It is close to churches; the Fay and Salamander public parks, with walking trails and playgrounds; and many schools. Among the Pittsburgh public schools in the area are O’Hara Elementary and Riverview Junior-Senior High. Private schools in the community are the Shadyside Academy, Fox Chapel Country Day School, Ethnan Sda Christian School, and Christ the Divine Catholic Academy.
For medical care, residents have access to UPMC St. Margaret Hospital, located near the Allegheny Valley Expressway, and nearby doctors’ offices. Shopping centers and movie theaters are scattered throughout the community.
Golf is available at the Fox Chapel Golf Club, a private club. The Seth Raynor-designed 18-hole course has been rated the best in the state many times. It features bent grass fairways, blue grass water hazards and sand bunkers.
Bus stops are scattered throughout the area, with routes to downtown. There is an active commercial area on Freeport Road, between the Allegheny Valley Expressway and the river. The Waterworks Mall is a regional shopping mall on Freeport Road. In addition to a number of national retailers, the mall has restaurants, several smaller stores and a movie theater.
