Esplen Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
The Esplen Neighborhood is in the 15204 zip-code area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The city of Pittsburgh, like many pre-Industrial Revolution cities, has a mixture of design styles that mark the pivotal changes in the city’s growth. The University areas and downtown residences have a distinct Bostonian style to the tightly packed brownstone buildings. The changes in available materials during times of expansion and growth are also apparent as the buildings begin to grow taller.
The neighborhood is bordered by the Ohio River to the north. Chartiers Avenue is the eastern boundary. The Sheraden Neighborhood is the southern border. The Chartiers Creek is the western boundary. Originally the neighborhood started as a railroad camp where the workers building the rail line lived.
To the north of the Esplen Neighborhood is the Grove outlet center, with famous brand names like Adidas, J. Crew, and the Nike Factory Store. To the east is the City of Pittsburgh Public Pool that has events scheduled year round. To the south is Sheridan Park, home to many recreational activities. The Mall at Robinson is to the west for the local Hot Topic, GAP, and Sears stores.
Rental properties in this neighborhood are probably the oldest, beginning as housing for the railroad laborers, and then as transient workers’ houses. But since then, the turn of the century structures have been replaced with modified colonials and row homes. An apartment or other rental in the area is very modestly priced and is practically a riverfront property.
The neighborhood has some sidewalks along the main road, but in the depth of the residential area, single-car roadways have no space to spare. The Port Authority of Allegheny County offer public transportation with scheduled bus routes and connecting light rail extensions. The bike lanes are along designated park trails.
