The streets in Central Northside are named after prominent soldiers and battles from the Mexican War of 1846, and are commonly referred to as the Mexican War Streets. The street plan was laid out by General William Robinson, Jr., who had returned to Pittsburgh after serving in the Mexican-American War and later became mayor of Pittsburgh. The neighborhood’s architecture is marked by brick row houses that have been restored in recent years.
