Mill Park Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
Located in the southeastern part of Portland is the almost rectangular neighborhood of Mill Park. The “almost” comes from the jut of land on the northwestern corner that encompasses Floyd Light City Park. This tree-filled, 16-acre recreation area offers nature paths and a softball field that residents are welcome to reserve. Sharing the neighborhood’s name, Mill Park is smaller, not quite six acres, and is in the center of the housing development. Picnic tables and walking pathways are surrounded by trees and large, grassy areas.
Residents of Mill Park also have use of the East Portland Community Center & Pool, just outside the western border. In addition to the indoor pool, the center offers a rock climbing wall, fitness room, indoor basketball court, and meeting rooms with adjacent kitchen which may be reserved. Cherry City Park and its off-leash dog area is across from the center. The Glendoveer Golf Course is north of Mill Park.
The area is made up mostly of single-family homes put up between 1940 and 1970. Development continued, at a much slower pace, through the 1990s. Later builders added apartments and duplexes to the mix. Streets are tree-lined and pedestrian friendly, though not laid out in any set pattern. Many are curved, others end in cul-de-sacs, and a few are almost arrow straight. It can be a pleasant but perhaps challenging walk for the newcomer.
Mill Park Elementary School is in the center of the neighborhood, right across the street from the park. The Portland Christian Elementary School is farther north. Mill Park Baptist Church is the closest place of worship. The closest mall, McMenamins, is west of Floyd Light City Park along Interstate 205.
