Center Neighborhood

Ten minutes east of downtown Portland, Oregon is the neighborhood of Center. Located in the 97213 zip code, Center is south of Interstate 84 and north of East Burnside Street. Center, an established neighborhood with wide sidewalks, is close to restaurants, shopping, and service businesses like salons and auto repair shops.

Within the mostly residential neighborhood of Center are churches, schools, and medical facilities. The Providence Portland Medical Center is located at the northwestern edge of the community. This medical facility offers more than 400 beds. Services range from emergency care to cancer care.

The Frazer Park and the Normandale Park are just north of Interstate 84 and the neighborhood of Center. Frazer Park is a small community park with an off-leash dog area, a playground, and a basketball court. Normandale Park also has a basketball court and an off-leash dog area, as well as sports facilities for soccer, football, volleyball, and softball. There are both paved and dirt paths for strolling and hiking, and a disabled access play area.

The Erv Lind Stadium at the southeastern corner of Normandale Park was built in 1948. Named to honor the Portland florist and champion women’s softball coach, the stadium hosts several games a year. Erv Lind coached his softball team for 28 years, winning two national titles.

Less than two miles north of Center is the Rose City Park. This park features lighted tennis courts, soccer and softball fields, and a disabled access play area. On the east side of the park is the Rose City Golf Course. Built in 1923, this golf course is the second oldest course in Portland. It is adjacent to Madison High School and the Glenhaven Park. The Glenhaven Park has a skate park with several training and challenge areas. There are also facilities for baseball, soccer, tennis, and softball.
