Located in the central part of the Clintonville neighborhood, Northmoor is situated in an established residential area bounded on the west by the Olentangy River, on the north by the Overbrook Ravine, on the south by West North Broadway Street, and on the east by the main north-south thoroughfare of High Street.

Clintonville is north of downtown Columbus and was subdivided into residential areas in the early 1900s after streetcar lines were extended from downtown. Columbus residents and Ohio State University professors built summer homes in Clintonville, including the Northmoor section.

Northmoor reflects the progression in architectural styles and lifestyle from the 1920s through the late 1950s. Houses were built as higher-end properties with driveways instead of alleys as the importance of automobiles increased. Current home prices range from $180,000 to $320,000, and styles include bungalow and Craftsman. Area schools are Clinton Elementary, Crestview Middle, and Whetstone High School.

An important feature that shaped much of Clintonville is the existence of five ravines. Overbrook Ravine on the north edge of Northmoor is part of the southern section of Whetstone Park on North High Street. The park provides a wonderful area for recreation and nature activities. Comprised of 136 acres of land, it includes walking trails, playgrounds, picnic areas, sports courts, a casting pond, picnic areas, and fishing in the Olentangy River.

Within Whetstone Park is the Park of Roses, with approximately 11,000 rose bushes and 350 varieties of roses. A Rose Festival is held in mid-June. There are also 13 other gardens, including those devoted to herbs, perennials, and daffodils.

Although Northmoor neighbors can walk and bike to the park, there is plenty of free parking for visitors. A community center and library branch are located at the edge of the park. Shops, restaurants, and other businesses are located along High Street.
