River Drive Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
The River Drive neighborhood, south of Fargo’s city center, is aptly named. It fronts the Red River that marks the border between North Dakota and Minnesota. One of the best fishing spots on Red River is less than half a mile from the neighborhood at River Oaks Park. Trophy sized catfish, bass and pike have been caught from the bank. On the other side of River Oaks Park is the Fargo Country Club. Its links follow the curves of the river, giving golfers a bit of scenery with their game.
The neighborhood itself is a combination of single family homes, townhouses and several apartment buildings. It is also home to the Waterford Estates Retirement Community Center. Development in the area began in the 1970s and it is considered sophisticated, artsy and because of its riverfront location, in tune with nature. Pathways lead down to the Nature Conservancy Park and Lemke Park, both near the riverfront.
South University Drive gives residents easy access to downtown Fargo, Interstates 29 and 94, making it easy to get to the movie theatres, shops, and restaurants at West Acres Shopping Center to the west, or to North Dakota State University in Fargo roughly five miles north. Several enterprising companies have set up shop near the neighborhood, including the Courts Plus Fitness Center and Vision Bank on South University Drive. A neighborhood bakery on River Drive sports the name Cookies For You and a nearby restaurant on South University Drive is called the Cork’n Cleaver.
Nearby schools include the Children’s Montessori Center on 32nd Avenue South and Discovery Middle School on 40th Avenue South. Houses of worship include the Liberty Lutheran Brethren Church and Prairie Heights Community Church, both on 32nd Avenue South. Fargo’s MAT bus system offers services along South University Drive.
