Lakeside is a neighborhood in western Raleigh, North Carolina, within Wake County. As the name suggests, this community is roughly adjacent to an area lake. Lake Johnson and Lake Johnson Nature Park are situated to the north, just on the other side of Interstate 40. The neighborhood is bounded by Olive Road on the west, I-40 on the north, Avent Ferry Road on the east, and Tryon Road on the south. Lakeside is in the 27606 zip code.

Lakeside enjoys the best of both worlds. The nearby Interstate provides easy access to the rest of the city – the downtown area is roughly a 12-minute drive to the east. However, the nearby lake and parkland connects residents to nature, also. The lake itself offers fishing; boating includes kayak and paddle boat rentals. The paved trails surrounding the lake are roughly equal to a 5K, which makes this a great place for avid runners to train for races; bikers frequent the trails, too. There are dirt trails through wooded areas for those preferring nature hikes. The park is dog friendly, and people are out walking their dogs, or dogs are swimming in the lake (although swimming is prohibited for humans).

Shopping is also a popular activity here, with retail centers located within a few miles to the west, along I-40. The Crossroads Plaza is closest to home; this shopping center offers a Bed, Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, Dick’s Sporting Goods, a coffee shop, and more. There is also a movie theater. Farther west is the Cary Town Center. This indoor shopping center offers specialty and department stores, including Macy’s and JC Penney’s. There is also a food court. Several restaurants surround the mall.

Lakeside is also known for its close proximity to North Carolina State University within a mile or two to the northeast. There are also several smaller private institutions of higher learning in the area.
