McAlpine Neighborhood

The McAlpine neighborhood in south Charlotte is almost an extension of the popular parks and nature trails that surround it. Private, wooded lots give many homes in McAlpine the feeling of secluded lodges, surrounded by tall trees and established landscaping. This large neighborhood, with more than 5,000 residents, was developed in the late 1970s and early 1980s with ranch and two-story style houses.

The neighborhood encompasses ZIP code 28226 and is bordered by Pineville-Matthews Road on the north and Johnston Road on the east. Interstate 485 cuts through the southern tip of the neighborhood.

Residents of McAlpine enjoy a quick commute to some of Charlotte’s busiest business centers, including SouthPark and Ballantyne, thanks to its proximity to major roads such as Pineville Matthews Road, I-485, U.S. 521 and Johnston Road. The first stop on Charlotte’s light rail line, a popular way to commute to uptown Charlotte, is just minutes away. Carolina Place Mall, one of Charlotte’s most-visited shopping destinations, and Carolinas Medical Center Pineville are a short drive from McAlpine.

Several popular recreation areas are situated near McAlpine. The Lower McAlpine Creek, McMullen Creek and Four Mile Creek greenways comprise 5.8 miles of wide trails through woods and marshes ideal for wildlife viewing and exercise. Golfers enjoy the manicured courses of Carmel Country Club and Quail Hollow Country Club, which is home to a premier PGA Tour event. William R. Davie Park features a large playground, soccer fields, horseshoe pits and a one-acre lake.
