Second Avenue Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
The Second Avenue neighborhood is in the 12202 zip code of Albany, the state capital of New York. The city, perched on the shore of the Hudson River, had always been a hub for transportation prior to the rise of air travel. Settlers, explorers, missionaries, and farmers all passed through Albany in the early 1900s. This led to use of toll roads and the formal grid structure of the road design in the neighborhoods.
The northern boundary for the neighborhood excludes half of Singerland Street. The line then crosses Boenau Street and touches its eastern corner to 3rd Avenue, then cuts back to Sloan Street. The border for the east is Sloan Street down to Interstate 787. The southern edge stretches just past exit 1, as the west border cuts through Hoffman Park to finish off the neighborhood.
To the north of the Second Avenue neighborhood is The Armory Sports and Convention Arena, originally the 10th Battalion Armory, which hosts a variety of events. To the east is the New Day Art gallery, opened in 2004. The Hoffman Park and Community Recreation center is south of the neighborhood, and to the west is the Spectrum 8 Theater showing all the latest cinema releases.
Neighborhood rentals fill the historic buildings in the area. Studio apartments, efficiencies, or splitting the cost with a roommate can reduce the expenses.
The Second Avenue Neighborhood is designed for pedestrian travel having wide sidewalks and narrow roadways. The area’s public transportation is delivered by the Capital District Transportation Authority. The streets are nostalgically small, forcing cyclists to merge with the flow of traffic through most of the city.
