Downtown North is a large neighborhood in Las Vegas, Nevada. The neighborhood is framed by Owens Avenue to the north, Interstate 15 to the west, and Interstate 515 to the south. The location makes it perfect for quick access to best areas of Las Vegas and beyond, with two major freeways on the borders of the neighborhood.
Located off of Civic Center Drive is one of the biggest libraries in the Las Vegas region. The North Las Vegas Library has thousands of books and periodicals that are available for use by area residents and students. The library also has numerous computers with Internet access that are used by area students and job seekers hoping to use the Internet to find jobs. The library also offers many classes throughout the week on computer usage, reading, and a wide variety of other topics. Many of the programs are geared toward helping kids read while others are for community enrichment.
On the north side of Las Vegas Boulevard is the Silver Nugget Bowling Center. The large bowling alley is a favorite with area residents looking for a quick form of entertainment. It is also home to many league games and tournaments for a wide range of age groups.
For gambling, the closest casino is the smaller but adequate Opera House Saloon and Casino. It isn’t anywhere near as large as the many big-name casinos in the area, but it provides area residents with a casino close to home. It has many of the same offerings of the larger casinos, just on a smaller scale.
Area recreation can be found off of Donna Street at Petitti Park. The park has several baseball fields, a playground, swimming pool, soccer fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, and of course, several picnic areas. The park is typically in regular use by area residents and their families.
