South Hyde Park Apartments for Rent
The South Hyde Park area of Kansas City, Missouri since the 1800s has been an area where real estate speculation was rampant. This area had significant growth in the 1800s and during the period of 1977 to 1979 there were numerous properties that changed hands a number of times. The larger Hyde Park neighborhood has morphed several times over the years, with the largest change taking place in the in the early 1890s when the area was annexed by Kansas City.
There have been several notable residents of the South Hyde Park neighborhood including Walt Disney, James McQueeny who was the assistant prohibition director in Missouri, and James Orval Cunningham who authored several early papers (1900s) on anesthesia. There were also several other notable residents in the area including lawyers, physicians and political activists.
There are some breathtaking monuments in the South Hyde Park area, including the Eagle Scout Memorial which shows a clock in the center of a wreath as well as figures of two women, one to reflect day and one to reflect night. Interestingly enough, the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association has roots that tie back to 1924, when it was first proposed in a protest to zoning changes.
There has been some confusion as to the real area that is designated as Hyde Park because of historic records that have contradicted the current boundaries of the Hyde Park neighborhood. The landmarks that designated this neighborhood have come into question as historic records have been examined. There is little doubt however, that the South Hyde Park neighborhood has been greatly improved by recent investments by Kansas City, including tree plantings, landscaping and new sidewalks and curbs. The area overall has seen a boon in recent years as investments both public and private have drawn more attention to the area.
