Santa Fe Hills Apartments for Rent
The Santa Fe Hills is a lovely old neighborhood south of downtown Kansas City. Named for the Santa Fe Trail that passed through on its way west, the area retains many traces of its history. Daniel Boone visited here when he was over 70 years old, and his sons Nathan and Morgan built homes in what is now a peaceful modern neighborhood.
Eighty-Fifth Street edges the Santa Fe Hills on the north, Troost Avenue on the east, Eighty-Ninth Street to the south, and Wornall Road on the west. The curving streets and hilly contours of Santa Fe Hills give the neighborhood a distinctive character and slow traffic. The zip code for the Santa Fe Hills area is 64114.
The first developer-built houses in the area were called the “Love Nests.” They sold for about three thousand each. One remains at the intersection of Daniel Boone Road and Virginia Lane. Current housing in the Santa Fe Hills neighborhood is larger and more modern.
Homes in Santa Fe Hills are mostly single family, although there are also apartments in the area. Houses are of varied style but mostly postwar. They are two stories as a rule, and are surrounded by well-tended landscaping and mature trees. Many intersections feature landscaped islands.
Dog-walkers, strollers, and joggers enjoy the quiet curving streets. The Kansas City Trolley Track Trail also passes through the edge of the neighborhood, offering access to miles of groomed trail. Nearby South Oak Park is another option for exercise or a family picnic.
Commuters have a direct route up Highway 71 to downtown, or can travel east or west on Highway 50. Local shopping is plentiful on major streets of the area.
