Longfellow Neighborhood

Longfellow is a picturesque community of Kansas City in the 64108 and the 64109 zip codes. With an area of 0.330 square miles, it has a population of just under 2,000 residents.

It’s bordered to the north by East 25th Street and to the south by East 31st Street. Gillham Road serves as the western border of the neighborhood, while Harrison Street serves as its eastern border.

Most of the housing structures in Longfellow are single-family, detached units of varying styles, designs, and sizes. Also, there are attached houses and apartment complexes in the neighborhood.

The National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial is within walking distance to the west of the community. It is a memorial to the soldiers who gave their lives in World War I. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 2006. It includes a 217-foot tower memorial, two big sphinx sculptures, and multiple parts of the museum underneath and around the tower.

Even though Longfellow is primarily residential, the massive Crown Center Shopping Complex is directly adjacent to its west. The shopping arena is anchored by the massive department store, Halls, which is owned by the Hallmark Cards. It’s a three-story mall with gorgeous, open-air water fountains, movie theaters, walkways to the street and to Union Station, and an ice skating rink. It also includes the landmark Hyatt Regency Crown Center Hotel, which reaches as high as 45 stories, and two skyscraper apartment buildings.

Several residents are members of the Mission Hills Country Club, which is within easy driving distance to the southwest of Longfellow. The club offers an 18-hole championship golf course, tennis courts, an aquatic center with swimming pool, on-site dining, and a luxurious clubhouse. The nearby Kansas City Country Club is also popular.
