Knoches Park Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
Knoches Park is a historic neighborhood on the old East Side of Kansas City, Mo. Located near the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, it is southeast of downtown. After World War II, Knoches Park was one of Kansas City’s first subdivisions.
The northern boundary of Knoches Park is Interstate 70. The western border is Jackson Avenue. On the south, the boundary line is East Thirty-Ninth Street, and Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard is the eastern boundary. Though the VA hospital is within these boundaries, it and a few surrounding streets are often not considered part of the neighborhood. The ZIP code for Knoches Park is 64128.
The small single-family homes of Knoches Park were mostly built in traditional post-war style, sometimes with a second story that hangs over a wide, welcoming front porch. Some small ranch homes and Tudor Revivals also line the hilly streets, where mature trees shade the lawns and gardens, and steps often lead down to the narrow streets. Some blocks lack sidewalks, but have lawns or landscaping that extend to the street instead.
Nearby parks, to the northeast, include Blue Valley, which offers ice-skating in winter and family picnics in summer. Swope Park, about 5 miles south of Knoches Park, has an outdoor theater that often presents touring Broadway shows and other nationally known entertainment. Swope Park is also an excellent place for hiking or just dog walking.
Local shopping surrounds the neighborhood, but the closest major mall may be Crown Center in downtown Kansas City or Country Club Plaza near Highway 56. Commuting from Knoches Park is easy because of its proximity to I-70.
The Knoches Park neighborhood has a mellow nostalgic appeal, with traditional homes set on large lots. The ambiance is almost suburban, though vibrant downtown Kansas City feels close at hand.
