Kansas City, Missouri is the largest city in the state with more than 400,000 residents. It is situated in the northwest region along the Missouri River. Named after the Kansa Indians, Kansas City originally was built as a trading post in the 1820s.

The Ivanhoe neighborhood, south of downtown is a family neighborhood with borders running from 31st Street to Emmanuel Cleaver II Boulevard and Prospect Avenue to The Paseo on the east. Through its center runs US Route 71. The Ivanhoe NE area is in the 64111 and 64109 zip codes with easy access to several interstates including I70, I435 and I35.

This neighborhood is primarily residential with a strong community foundation including its own non-profit neighborhood council. Through this group, the community coordinates neighborhood events, leadership programs for kids and provides structured kids’ programs like scouting, music, volleyball, cheerleading, football, baseball and basketball.

The Kansas City neighborhood of Ivanhoe NE is in Jackson County about eight miles from Swope Park. Swope Park is the second largest urban park in the United States and is home to the Kansas City Zoo. The Swope Memorial Golf Course, once the site of the Kansas City Open (a PGA Tour event), is nearby also.

Local parks include Spring Valley, Hyde Park and the larger Penn Valley Park. Penn Valley Park is about two miles from Ivanhoe NE and offers an off-leash dog park and two KC landmarks, the Liberty Memorial and the KC Scout Statue.

Residents of Ivanhoe NE have access to the Kansas City Transportation Authority (KCATA.) The Red 47(Roanoke) route travels into downtown and the Yellow 39 (39th Street) route travels to the University of Kansas Medical Center. The Truman Medical Center and Children’s Mercy Hospital are also nearby.
