Coleman Highlands Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
Bordered by Southwest Boulevard to the west, Summit Street to the east, East 31st Street to the north, and Roanoke Park to the south, the Coleman Highlands neighborhood is located on Kansas City’s southwest side, less than three miles from the city center on the Missouri side of the river.
Platted by Robert Coleman in 1907, Coleman Highlands is comprised of 80 acres divided into nearly 300 lots. The majority of the neighborhood’s single-family homes were built between 1908 and World War I, although a secondary wave of construction occurred throughout World War II. The unique neighborhood features homes in a variety of styles ranging from Craftsman and Colonial Revival to Prairie, Bungalow and Kansas City Shirtwaist. The older homes in Coleman Highlands are primarily two-story dwellings, although ranch-style residences were added during the early 1950s.
Residents of Coleman Highlands are afforded easy access to nearby Metropolitan Community College and Penn Valley Community College, both of which are located just across Summit Street on the neighborhood’s eastern edge. For those seeking a variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment, Crown Center – a unique three-level shopping center – is less than two miles from Coleman Heights. A skate park and off leash dog park are located a short distance to the north and offer residents a perfect place to enjoy the outdoors while still remaining close to home.
Nestled between Interstate 35 and Highway 71, Coleman Highlands also offers residents a convenient commute to downtown Kansas City as well as nearby communities such as Overland Park, Blue Springs, and Independence.
