Big Shoal Apartments for Rent

Big Shoal neighborhood changes a great deal from the west side to the east. Along the western boundary of North East Antioch Road is the mostly unused Antioch Shopping Center. Along the southern boundary – Highway 69 – homes are small, but generally well kept. Along the eastern part of the neighborhood, bound by North Jackson Avenue and the heavily wooded Big Shoal Park, homes are larger and generally more appealing. South of Big Shoal, new developments add vitality.

Just across Highway 69, Penguin Park is a great play area for children and Lakewood Park is an ideal locale for family picnics by the lake. For summer family activity, Midwest Worlds of Fun is approximately five miles from the Big Shoal neighborhood.

Kansas City North Community Center is about three miles south of Big Shoal, on North East Antioch Road. With an indoor water park, courts, rock wall, and planned programs, it’s a popular and affordable place for people of all ages.

Mid-Continent Library is about two miles north of Big Shoal. A few miles further north are Maple Woods Community College and Staley Farms Golf Club.

Other attractions within a short drive of this area are The Kansas Speedway and the new retail area surrounding the Speedway. Legends Shopping Mall, Cabela’s, Wizards Stadium Complex, and Schlitterbahn Waterpark are all just west of I-435, about a half-hour drive from Big Shoal.

Several major retailers are represented in the area, including Target, Wal-Mart, and Home Depot. Prairie Village features popular retailers like Macy’s.

The Big Shoal area is well served by Smithville Lake for outdoor recreation such as boating, fishing, camping, and golf. All the top historical sites of greater Kansas City are moments away via one of the main interstates, I-29 and I-35.
