Sanctuary is a community to the north of Minneapolis/Saint Paul, near Blaine, Minnesota. This neighborhood is situated just northwest of Interstate 35W, which provides easy access to the Twin Cities area. County Road 12/109th Avenue NE runs east-to-west to the north of the community, and County Road 52/Radison Road NE bypasses it on the west. Lexington Preserve Business Park and Glenn Meadows are located to the east. Part of Anoka County, Sanctuary has a zip code of 55449.
A significant chunk of parkland known as Blaine Town Square Park is one of the more prominent features of the Sanctuary neighborhood. This ample parkland is sandwiched between the County Roads in the area. Other small parks in the area include Radisson Woods Park and North Oaks West Park.
Just south of the parkland is the Anoka County – Blaine Airport (Janes Field), which provides area residents with transportation to larger national airfields.
Sanctuary area residents enjoy close proximity to the Schwan Super Rink (located on 105th Avenue Northeast to the west of the park) and The National Sports Center. The Super Rink is the largest indoor ice arena in the entire world. Eight rinks are located on 300 thousand square feet in this state-of-the-art facility.
In addition to all that ice, the rink also houses dryland figure skating and hockey training facilities, a pro shop, 32 large locker rooms, and a café that overlooks the ice. Schwan is also proud to be home to the U.S. Women’s Olympic Team. What better place for this rink than in a city that is known for biting, cold winters and plenty of snow?
