Within the 55449 zip code in Anoka County, this Minnesota community is situated immediately east of Lexington Avenue Northeast/County Highway 17. Bordered by the Finn Farm and Willowbrook communities on the north and St. Andrews Village on the south, the neighborhood extends to Lever Court Northeast on the east and 117th Avenue Northeast on the south.

In general, the town of Blaine has a somewhat rural feel, with plenty of natural beauty but limited city conveniences. The vast majority of Garden Wood is undeveloped wooded land, but at least a few single-family homes are located there, well separated from one another on large lots. The few residents who call this community home enjoy easy access to Interstate 35W. This highway runs past the neighborhood about a mile to the south, connecting it to downtown Minneapolis. Just a 25-minute drive to the south, downtown Minneapolis is a popular destination for Garden Wood residents in search of recreation, entertainment, shopping, dining, and nightlife.

Closer to home, residents of Garden Wood can find recreational opportunities at one of several nearby neighborhood parks, including Lochness Park and Behn’s Park. A large chain of at least eight lakes is a few miles southeast of this community, providing additional opportunities for outdoor activities like fishing, boating, and swimming. Golfers can head to this area to tee off at Chomonix Golf Course, situated along the western banks of scenic Reshanau Lake.

Two additional golf courses are within 10 minutes northwest of Garden Wood, including a private golf club known as Majestic Oaks.
