Crystal is a suburb of Minneapolis, located within Hennepin County. Brownwood is one of the 14 neighborhoods that make up the city of Crystal. This roughly rectangular-shaped community has a ZIP code of 55427. It is bounded by North 42nd Avenue/Country Road 9 on the north, 36th Avenue North on the south, and Douglas Drive on the east. Its western boundary extends past Kentucky Avenue North but ends before Louisiana Avenue North.
Within the community bounds are several small parks, including Florida Park and Brownwood Park. Just outside of the community’s western boundary are neighboring Kentucky Park and Lions Park. However, the most prominent natural landmark in Brownwood is Hagemeister Pond Preserve Park on 41st Avenue North. This 7.2-acre conservancy doesn’t offer many amenities but is nonetheless a beautiful place to visit. The boardwalk, which features wood carvings, as well as the gazebo and overlook, attracts pedestrians wanting to admire nature’s bounty.
Also within the Brownwood neighborhood are the Crystal City Hall and Crystal Police Department. The Rockford Branch Library is just inside of the community’s northern boundary.
Most of the businesses serving Brownwood are along 42nd Avenue North. They include a grocery store, several restaurants, small shops, a YMCA, and the New Hope Bowl & Lounge. Some are located outside of the community’s boundaries but are just a short drive, walk, or cycle away.
In the community of Fair, which borders Brownwood on the east, are the Fair School and the Kinder Care Learning Center.
Although the neighboring communities in Crystal and the nearby suburb of Robbinsdale meet many of the shopping, dining, and entertainment needs of Brownwood residents, other options are just a short drive away, and nearby Beltway 100 provides easy access to the rest of the city. The trendy Uptown neighborhood is less than 20 minutes away by car and offers unique dining and shopping options.
