Tinker Air Force Base Area Apartment Housing(hide military information)
Tinker Air Force Base is a major US base utilized by the Department of Defense, the Air Force, and the Navy. Tinker AFB is home to the 72d Air Base Wing. The base is named for the first Native American Major General and Oklahoma native, Major General Clarence L. Tinker. The base is part of the Air Force Materiel Command and was built in 1941.
Roughly 10 miles southeast of downtown Oklahoma City, Tinker AFB is flanked by Midwest City to the north and Stanley Draper Lake to the south. Midwest City was planned when it became clear that an air field would be located in the area. The city was incorporated soon after in 1943. The city was named for the original Midwest Air Depot, which was later renamed Tinker Air Force Base. The city includes an 18-hole municipal golf course, a splash park, and Joe B. Barnes Regional Park. The regional park has a walking trail, several ball fields, a dog park, and picnic areas.
Anywhere in Midwest City would be ideal for renting an apartment near Tinker AFB. Neighborhoods near the base include Frolich Meadows Estates, Parkview, Ridgefield, and Kennington. Downtown Oklahoma City is a short 15-minute drive on I-40 – perfect for commuting or for enjoying the restaurants, museums, and shops located there.
