Located on the southeast side of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base is part of the Air Combat Command and home to the 4th Fighter Wing, one of the most distinguished wings in the Air Force. Seymour Johnson AFB was established in 1942 and was named for Goldsboro native and navy test pilot Seymour Johnson. In addition to the 4th Fighter Wing, the base also hosts several tenant units.
The charming and friendly city of Goldsboro is located on the coastal plains of North Carolina, roughly an hour southeast of Raleigh and about an hour southwest of Greenville. Goldsboro was founded in 1787. Located along the Neuse River, the community grew steadily once the railroad arrived in the mid-1800s. Today, Goldsboro is a beautiful city with several local attractions, such as the Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course and the Waynesborough Historical Village. Cliffs of the Neuse State Park features cliffs that rise 90 feet above the river and has several hiking trails, camping, fishing, and a swimming area.
