Located on a 14,494-acre site on the southeast side of Richmond and about 30 miles southeast of Lexington, the Blue Grass Army Depot consists of open fields and wooded areas and is used for disposal of munitions, storage, and repair. BGAD employs more than 5,800 civilians, 8,300 contractor personnel, and about 20 military personnel. The facility was established in 1941.
