Poplar Level is a neighborhood in southeastern Louisville, Kentucky, roughly five and a half miles (or 15 minutes) from the heart of the downtown area. This community encompasses the 40213 and 40217 zip code areas and is bounded by Interstate 264 on the south, Poplar Level Road on the west, and Eastern Parkway on the north. The eastern boundary is less cut and dry, but falls well short of Newburg Road. Like most of the Louisville area, Poplar Level belongs to Jefferson County.

Poplar Level is a large neighborhood, spanning more than 1.5 square miles and housing more than 1,815 residents. Parts of this community are residential, but there are several significant commercial attractions within neighborhood bounds as well. These include the Louisville Zoo, a popular weekend destination for area families, as well as the Norton Audubon Hospital and part of the Our Lady of Peace Hospital. Just outside of neighborhood bounds on the east is Bellarmine College, and just beyond of the western boundary is Clark Park, a popular community feature. Clearly, Poplar Level residents have no shortage of amenities and attractions within walking distance of home.

By Louisville standards, the residents of Poplar Level are quite affluent. In 2008, the median household income in this neighborhood was $61,004 – nearly double the city average of $34,116. Many of the single-family homes here date back to 1950, but some were constructed prior to 1940, and some new construction continued into the late 20th century.

A variety of additional attractions can be found within a few miles of the Poplar Level neighborhood. The University of Louisville is just a few miles west of the neighborhood, and the Louisville International Airport is approximately two miles to the southwest. For more to see and do, residents of Poplar Level are just minutes south of the downtown area.
