Shunga Trail runs along the south part of the neighborhood, beginning at Crestview Park. Currently, it is 4.5 miles of paved trail for hiking, biking, and skating and connects with other parks nearby, ending at the Expocentre. Washburn University is another popular neighborhood recreation area.

West Ridge Lanes and nearby public golf courses round out the neighborhood recreational sites. Lake Shawnee, only a few miles away, provides camping facilities, a 400-acre lake for boating and swimming, and summer camps. There is an 18-hole public golf course at Lake Shawnee.

Nearby Washburn University, known for its strong academic programs and law school, is quite involved with the community, providing concerts, festivals, and lively athletic competition.
