Quinton Heights Apartments for Rent
South of downtown and southeast of Washburn University, Quinton Heights is an old Topeka neighborhood. An interesting mixture of traditional single-family homes and modern apartments with retail and commercial services around the edges, Quinton Heights is a hilly neighborhood of tidy lawns shaded by mature trees.
On the west side, Southwest Washburn Avenue and Shunga Glen Park are the boundaries of Quinton Heights. On the south, the dividing line is Southwest Twenty-Seventh Street, with the private Topeka Country Club beyond it. The boundary on the east side of the neighborhood is Southwest Topeka Boulevard, and on the north, it is Southwest Twenty-First Street.
Shunga Glen Park is one place to start a walk on the well-paved Shunga Trail. This trail, still expanding, will ultimately reach from the southwest corner of Topeka to its northeast with opportunities for running, biking, skating, and strolling. It currently connects with many other trails in a network that already explores much of the Shunganunga Creek watershed. Shady Shunga Glen Park itself holds a beautiful meadow that is used as a soccer field and also a popular day-use-only skateboard park.
A popular winter destination in the neighborhood is Quinton Heights Hill, on Twenty-Fourth Street just west of the school administration building. This time-honored sledding spot for many Topeka families holds two soccer fields at its foot and abuts a neighborhood school, Quinton Heights Elementary. Incidentally, the first Quinton Heights School, begun in 1887, was one room, served eight grades, and stood outside the city limits.
Quinton Heights is less than three miles south of downtown. It has a pleasant suburban feel though it retains easy access to all that Topeka has to offer.
