McAlister Parkway is a neighborhood in Topeka, Kansas in the 66604 zip code. The borders of the neighborhood are Southwest Huntoon Street on the north, Southwest 17th Street on the south, Southwest Gage Boulevard on the east, and Southwest Indian Trail on the west. This is a mature neighborhood of mid-century homes on quiet streets. There are an abundance of trees and some sidewalks. Commercial businesses have grown up along the border streets.

Mount Hope Cemetery is located in the western half of this neighborhood. It is really a memorial park and was designed as such. An interesting anecdote is that the wives of both the landscape architect and the owner died right after it was begun and they were among the very first buried here; in fact, one of them was the first. There are sections with memorials in the cemetery, including the Lincoln Garden, which has a half-size model of the Lincoln Memorial. Beyond just being a cemetery, this is an amazing place for a walk just to see all the beautiful monuments that there are to see.

There are quite a few churches in this neighborhood, among them Lowman United Methodist Church, Faith Lutheran Church, and St. David’s Episcopal Church. There is also a U.S. Post Office in the neighborhood as well as a Wendy’s.

When residents want to have a mall shopping experience, West Ridge Mall is a five-minute drive away. It is a large mall with over 100 specialty stores and anchored by J.C. Penney’s, Dillard’s, Macy’s, Sears, and Burlington Coat Factory. There are stores to satisfy every member of the family. Beyond the mall there is the Kohl’s Shopping Plaza next door, which also houses a Wal-Mart Supercenter and a Sam’s Club.
