About two miles south of the Ellenwand neighborhood is the Shunga Trail, which follows winding Shunganunga Creek through a loosely strung chain of public parks that includes Crestview, Wells, Felker, Big Shunga, and Shunga Glen. Besides the paved Shunga Trail, most of these parks hold their own networks of unpaved nature trials that explore the woods and wetlands near the creek. Felker Park also has popular tennis facilities, and Crestview Park has disc golf as well as a BMX track, for cross-country bicycle racing.

Local shopping is clustered in an area just southeast of Ellenwand, while more extensive shopping excursions may take shoppers to substantial West Ridge Mall, less than two miles to the southwest.
