Riverview Apartments for Rent

Riverview, located just west of downtown Kansas City, was once an independent community, but in 1881 this collection of vintage Victorians was annexed into its larger neighbor. The name comes from the view of the Kaw River that flows around the southern end of the neighborhood. Today’s Riverview residents are close to the delights of downtown Kansas City, the Kaw Point Riverfront Park, Holland Park, and the Kansas City Downtown Airport. An off-leash dog park is available nearby at Westside South.

Most of the homes in Riverview were built prior to 1939 and the neighborhood retains the charm of an earlier age. Lots are large, sometimes oddly shaped, and filled with mature trees and manicured gardens. Part of the fun of walking around in Riverview is seeing how many of the old Victorian homes still exist. Building continued until the mid 1980s, but on a much smaller scale. Some of the newer properties are small apartments.

Schools in the area include the M E Pearson Elementary, the Lowell Early Childhood Center, and Bishop Ward High School. The Resurrection Catholic Church also operates its own elementary school. Other churches in the area include the Church of the Living God and Christ the Savior Baptist Church. The Metropolitan Junior College and the Summer Academy of Arts and Science are both to the north.

The closest shops and restaurants are along North 10th Street, Central Avenue, and State Avenue in the north which leads into the heart of downtown. A few locally owned neighborhood eateries include Tao Tao, Mad Jack’s Fresh Fish, and Gates & Sons Bar-B-Q.
