Jordan Park offers all the conveniences of the city, yet residents enjoy a tranquil suburban atmosphere. Homes vary from small split-levels to large brick ranch homes in gently rolling terrain. Sidewalks make walking to all the attractions a delight. The neighborhood is bounded by East McKinley Avenue, South East 14th Street, East Army Post Road, and South East 5th Street.

Parks are everywhere in this part of Des Moines. One of the best is Ewing Park, less than a half mile east. Ewing Park has a fabulous disc-golf course, trails, a lilac park, playground, pond, lake, and more. Gray’s Lake Park, about four miles northwest, and Lake Easter Park, about two miles east, provide access to water sports on larger lakes.

In the northeastern quadrant, a large shopping area features such national stores as Best Buy, Home Depot, and Jo-Ann’s Fabrics. To the south, Southridge Mall has a Target, Sears, and HyVee grocery. A Walmart Super Center is just east of the neighborhood.

There are several golf courses, both public and private, a short drive from Jordan Park. Wakonda Country Club is the closest private club. Echo Valley Country Club is less than 10 miles southwest. There are four public courses, with A. H. Blank Municipal Course the closest. Others include Countryside, The Legacy, and Willow Creek.

The A. H. Blank Park Zoo and historic Fort Des Moines Park are about three miles south of the Jordan Park community.

A 10-minute drive north is Historic East Village, an eclectic blend of small shops, restaurants, and entertainment sites. The Village is just west of the State Capitol and just east of the River Walk. A free trolley provides shuttle service.

Universities nearby and north of I-235 include Drake, Mercy College of Health Sciences, and Des Moines Community College.
