Garton West is a Des Moines, Iowa neighborhood that is located to the west of Interstate 235. Guthrie Avenue is its border to the south, Delaware Avenue lies to the west, and Hull Avenue is the boundary to the north. It encompasses an area of just over .16 square miles and has a population of just under 200 people. The majority of its residents are Iowa natives with an educational level of a high school diploma or the equivalent.

Most homes in this neighborhood are single-family dwellings. Many are ranch style with a few bi-levels. Real estate in Garton West is modestly priced. It is generally priced between the $50,000 to $100,000 range.

A large part of this neighborhood is still industrial. Tompkins Industries, a supplier of hydraulic parts and other products, started in 1967 and has a branch located on Delaware Avenue. Goodwin Tucker is another of the industrial concerns here, with over 90 employees and a history dating back to 1938. A number of other enterprises join these companies. A main artery of the railroad sits behind some of these employers on the west side of Delaware Avenue, making it a convenient location for these industrial buildings. The Teamsters Local Union 120 also has its home here.

Most residential areas in Garton West are tucked away from the industrial areas, nestled within tree-lined side streets. The Interstate on the east side of the neighborhood keeps it contained, so streets other than the borders are either cul de sacs or dead ends.
