Directly north of Indianapolis, the city of Kokomo is classically Midwestern, from its rolling hills to its curvy, ornate Victorians. As the county seat of Howard County, Kokomo is a large city with many government offices located downtown. It is also home to several colleges and universities, including Indiana University Kokomo and Purdue College of Technology. Other major Kokomo employers include Chrysler LLC, Delphi Corporation, and Haynes International.

Kokomo’s history is preserved in several historic sites, including the Vermont Covered Bridge. Located in Highland Park, it is the final remaining bridge of its kind in Indiana. Also located in Highland Park, the Elwood Haynes Museum celebrates the life and career of Haynes, an inventor credited with developing the first commercially built car. The Pioneer Cemetery is the location of Chief Kokomo’s gravesite, a Miami Indian chief for whom the town was named.

After you find your perfect Kokomo apartment to rent, you’ll enjoy the city’s many parks, museums, shops, restaurants, and theaters. During the summer, residents cool off at Kokomo Beach’s leisure pool, lazy river, slide tower, lap pool, and other waterslides and play areas. Mehlig Park contains a grill, playground, and dog park; Jackson Morrow Park contains a path, historic sites, a skate park, a sledding hill, and a nature area; and Reservoir Park is home to a boat launch, fishing areas, picnic areas, a playground, and a hiking trail. Other parks include basketball courts, ball fields, and tennis courts.

Kokomo’s events and festivals celebrate the city’s Midwestern heritage. Enjoy the Kokomo Rib Fest, the City of Firsts Soapbox Derby, the Taste of Kokomo Festival, and the Haynes-Apperson Festival – a major city event with a car show, a parade, and live entertainment.
