Springfield, Illinois, is a city steeped in history and full of fun things to do. The house in which Abraham Lincoln lived is an interesting place to tour. A visit allows guests a glimpse into the past. Route 66 went through Springfield, and one of the remaining diners serves the corn dogs invented in the restaurant. Springfield’s Thomas Rose Memorial Carillon, with its 67 bells, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2011.

Despite the attractions of the downtown area, the residents of the Lake Pointe neighborhood might not want to leave home. It is less than a mile to Interstate 55, which leads to downtown, but it is also less than a mile to Lake Springfield.

The Lake Pointe neighborhood, in zip code 62712, is a mix of single-family homes and apartments. Located on North Cotton Hills Road, it is south of Toronto Road, where residents will find several places to shop and dine. The schools, including the University of Illinois Springfield and Lincoln Land Community College, are within four miles of this neighborhood.

Lake Springfield boasts eight public parks and several boat docks along its shoreline. In addition to boating and swimming, fishing is a frequent activity. Golfing is available at three courses nearby. The off-leash dog trails are popular with pet owners. At the Henson Zoo, children can view more than 300 animals, as well as learn how to preserve endangered species.

Residents can go to downtown Springfield for additional shopping and dining. They might want to take in the annual International Route 66 Mother Road Festival and Car Show. Regardless of individual preferences, the Lake Pointe neighborhood is in a great location for taking advantage of all the attractions Springfield has to offer.
