The neighborhood of Woodville/Bartow is located northwest of Downtown Savannah in zip code 31408. I-516/US 80 borders the community to the north. Other major thoroughfares are the Jim Gillis Historic Savannah Parkway (I-16) to the south, and US 17/State Route 25 to the east.

The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport lies to the northwest, while the Hunter Army Airfield lies south of Woodville/Bartow. Both Savannah’s historic and Victorian districts lie east of the neighborhood.

Woodville/Bartow’s homes were built between the 1940s and 1980s on a grid of level streets lined with shady trees. Although there are not sidewalks, the neighborhood is a nice place for walking and biking as long as caution is taken for traffic.

Most of the neighborhood is surrounded by industry, although Jasper Spring occupies the east end. This small park was named for Sgt. William Jasper, an American Revolutionary War hero. A memorial to Jasper, the covered spring, and picnic tables are found in this park. Other nearby recreation areas include The Mary Calder Golf Club, a nine-hole course located to the north.

For nature lovers, the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge sits along the South Carolina/Georgia border to the northwest of Downtown Savannah. Comprised of old rice fields that have numerous different birds, alligators, and views, the best way to view this area is via the four-mile driving loop.

Shopping, dining, and entertainment venues abound in and around Downtown Savannah, including the Avalon/Oglethorpe Mall southeast of Woodville/Bartow. Nearby movie theaters include the Westside Cinemas in Garden City. The Beach Institute in Downtown collects, interprets, preserves, and presents African American history and culture to Savannah residents. Other downtown museums include the Telfair Museum of Art and the Savannah History Museum.
