Metropolitan Apartments for Rent
Savannah, a Georgian city that dates back to 1733, successfully combines historic districts, residential areas, and sprawling city parks. In Savannah’s 31401 zip code is the Metropolitan neighborhood. Located south of the Victorian District, Metropolitan is a walkable community with a mixture of apartment buildings, single-family residences, and historical landmarks.
In the Metropolitan neighborhood, brick streets mingle with paved roads while private residences coexist comfortably with local businesses. Within the neighborhood, it is easy to walk to churches, eateries, and the St. Paul’s Academy for Girls. There is also a small grocer on the northern edge of the community.
On Metropolitan’s Bull Street is the Live Oak Public Library main branch. Its distinctive, neoclassical architecture stands out in this residential area. Built with a Carnegie Grant, it opened in 1916. In addition to a large volume collection that includes state history and genealogy records, the library offers eBooks, Wi-Fi, and several community programs for kids and adults.
To the north of Metropolitan, within walking distance, is Forsyth Park. One of Savannah’s most popular parks, it is surrounded by historic homes and is one of the stops on the Savannah Trolley Tour. It has tennis courts, multipurpose fields, and a playground. This highly trafficked park has plenty of shaded areas, benches, and even a cafe. A seasonal Farmer’s Market is held here and its scenic landscapes are a favored backdrop for local bridal party pictures. The city provides several areas with free Wi-Fi, including the south end of the park and at the Forsyth Fort Cafe.
Four blocks north of Forsyth Park is the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Founded in 1978, SCAD offers degree programs in more than 35 areas including architecture, art history, graphic design, performing arts, and writing.
