Hutchinson Island Neighborhood

The neighborhood of Hutchinson Island is immediately north of downtown Savannah, Georgia. Located on the Savannah River, this island community was largely used to support the Port of Savannah for many years. Today, its primary business centers around the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center (as well as the Westin Harbor Golf Resort and Spa), which draws many visitors to the island.

The first residential development to be constructed in the neighborhood was the gated community of the Reserve at Savannah Harbor. Surrounded by the Westin’s golf course on three sides, the fourth side offers waterfront vistas of the Black River.

At 100 acres in size, the Reserve at Savannah Harbor offers luxury homes that blend well with downtown Savannah’s architecture, as well as more modern town houses. The area offers great vistas of the river and downtown Savannah.

Access to the island is via the Talmadge Bridge, or there is a water ferry from historic River Street in Savannah. Whether residents drive or ride, they can arrive in less than 10 minutes. The River Street area in downtown Savannah offers shopping, dining, and entertainment within easy reach of the island community, as is Forsythe Park.

Those who enjoy golfing have access to membership to the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Course on Hutchinson Island. This 18-hole course was designed by Sam Sneed and Robert Cupp, and is home to the PGA’s “Legends of Golf” tournament.

Other popular recreational activities include boating and fishing along both the Savannah and Black Rivers. The Intracoastal Waterway and Atlantic are both less than 15 miles away. Future plans include constructing a small boat and kayak marina.

The island is also home to a champ-car race track, which was recently renovated. The Ferrari Club hosts a charity car show and race there.
